The Coordinator for Design and Technology is Miss Preston.
At Redscope Primary School our design and technology curriculum aims to develop children’s skills and knowledge in design, structures, mechanisms, electrical control and a range of materials including food. It encourages children to develop a variety of skills including problem solving, creativity and resilience as an independent learner and as part of a team.
Our curriculum aims to help children identify needs and opportunities and to respond to them by developing a range of ideas and by making products and systems. In turn, this allows them to reflect on and evaluate past and present technology, its uses and its impact.
We base our teaching on the Purpose of Study and the Subject Content outlined in the National Curriculum 2014. This outlines a specific progression throughout the key stages focusing on the same aspects but developing them further.
As outlined in the National Curriculum document we follow a ‘design, make, evaluate’ approach to teaching the subject and aim to incorporate our learning in with our topics where appropriate. Each year group undertakes design and technology inspired topics that draw together all the skills and progression from the curriculum.
